Awesome Kids-friendly Ketchup Braised Tofu (Vegan, Vegetarian)

  • 1/3 cup cooking oil
  • 1 box firm or extra-firm tofu
  • 2 tbs all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tbs minced garlic
  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • freshly squeezed lemon juice to taste



  1. Cut tofu into 8 slices and squeeze tightly to remove excess water.
  2. Put about 1/3 cup of the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add tofu, and fry on both sides until it turns brown. About 4-5 minutes.
  3. Add the garlic and cook for a minute, then add the ketchup. Cook and stir for about 5 minutes, until the sauce bubbles, thickens, and starts to caramelize around the edges of the pan. Taste and add salt, pepper, as necessary.
  4. Add lemon juice to taste, stir, and serve.
